Save the Orangutans and help in the fight against global warming.

The Samboja Lestari project, developed and managed by BOS Foundation, is a unique reforestation concept situated in East Kalimantan, Borneo.

The once species-rich area had been cleared and burnt, leaving it an ecological waste-land. Since 2001, BOS Foundation has been working to restore the rainforest over an area of around 17 million square metres (sqm).

The benefits are widespread and already visible:

  • a permanent reserve for orangutans and other wildlife is being created
  • local communities are being provided with a sustainable livelihood
  • the micro-climate is improving with higher rainfall and lower temperatures already being experienced

BOS Australia has been allocated 42,000 sqm for its supporters to participate in returning the land to rainforest.

Sponsorship of each square metre costs $10 with your donation helping finance the purchase of land, its reforestation and management of the many aspects of the project, including the orangutan islands and the sunbear enclosure.

In purchasing square metres, sponsors do not actually "own" the land but will receive an on-line certificate of recognition acknowledging their part in returning Samboja Lestari to rainforest.
