Volunteer Co-ordinator Position Description

BOS Australia (BOSA) is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to contributing to the conservation of orangutans and their ecosystem. BOSA depends on its volunteer base to represent the organisation at local community events where they can promote BOSA; educate those in the community about the plight of the Orangutan; increase awareness of BOSA supported projects; as well as coordinate and participate in local fundraising initiatives. Currently, BOSA seeks a highly motivated, organised, and energetic individual to lead its volunteer recruitment and coordination.

Responsibilities

1. Assist people who express interest in BOSA by providing them with information about volunteer opportunities.
2. Help interested people to make an informed decision and commitment to be a BOSA volunteer by answering questions about BOSA mission, objectives, projects and expectations.
3. Qualify prospective volunteers and assist them in finding suitable volunteer projects/initiatives.
4. Coordinate and facilitate orientation and information exchange for new volunteers.
5. Establish relationships with relevant parties/organizations/online forums that have a potential volunteer base and undertake a program of outreach to these parties to recruit prospective volunteers.
6. Organise profile raising events to attract new volunteers.
7. Establish a formal communication program (printed and verbal) to regularly inform and educate the existing volunteer base about projects, initiatives, BOSA funded vacancies and BOSA efforts overseas.
8. Drive the establishment and ongoing support of volunteer groups in each state/territory within Australia.
9. Maintain a volunteer database and keep track of individual volunteer activities as well as volunteer skill base.
10. Plan and coordinate volunteer coverage at events.
11. Establish a recognition program for volunteers to recognise and reward special achievements and outstanding efforts of individual volunteers.
12. Make recommendations to the BOSA Committee on how the Volunteer Program can be continuously improved.

Professional Experience

1. One to two years of experience in working with volunteers.
2. A demonstrated commitment to BOSA mission.
3. High degree of self-motivation and desire to energise others.
4. Ability to work well with a diverse group of people.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate to, and coordinate a geographically dispersed group of volunteers.
6. Demonstrated customer service and marketing skills.
7. Ability to use computer word processing and spreadsheet programs.
8. Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work as apart of team.
