A little about Cantik (tik)
Cantik means beautiful in Indonesian, and she deserves the name. She was brought to Nyaru Menteng on the 11th of April by the local conservation office. She was approx 1.5-2 years old and had extremely long dense hair. She weighed 6 kg. She has eyes like Nabima, slightly slanted and with black long lashed. During her quarantine she showed great climbing skills and was seen eating various fruits and new leaves. Even now, with her new group of friends, she spends more time in the trees than most of the others and hopefully she will be able to pull Jordan, Togar and Sumo out of their lazyness and into the trees. She is not much of a cuddler and seem to prefer her own company to ours. She drinks huge amounts of milk especially before she goes to sleep her stomach being so big she can do nothing else but lay down on her back… and have her beauty-sleep. In August she now weighs 7.1 kg… not much of a gain, perhaps because she is climbing 90% of her time in the forest and eats more forest fruits, leaves and bark than cultivated fruits. She only seek human company if she wants a good tickle.
