Rocky

Rocky

A little about Rocky

Rocky was reported to us on the last day of the Yearly BOSF meeting on the 15th of June… again because of the newspaper-campaign. The owners had bought him up the river, thinking he would be a great pet for their small children. They did not at first put Rocky in a cage and he was free to roam the house. He slept on the sofa at night and to the despair of the mother in the house she was the one who had to clean up after him when he urinated or defecated. As the weeks went by Rocky became more and more naughty and eventually they put Rocky in one of two adjacent chicken cages. They told us when they called us up that they could not stand listening to his crying anymore… so please come and get him. Such a typically story. Rocky was/is approx 1.5-2 years old. He has medium length straight hair, he is short but sturdy… and most of all he is tough. He weighed in at 6.4 kg and we planned for him to be in the youngest group in Baby-school. Rocky though, had other plans. He is fearless, he is a bully and plays rough. We had to move him to the second oldest group and even here he throws himself at his much bigger 9+kg friends with a great smile on his face. In the afternoons he often joins Mona in a sand bath, meaning covering their heads with white sand and let it slide down over their faces, then rub it in throughly. Then they walk around with their sandcovered faces as a woman right out of a beauty-salon… In August he now weighs 7.5 kg and is as tough as ever.

How Can You Help

Adopt an Orangutan

Orangutans are endangered and at risk of extinction. Habitat destruction results in hundreds of orphaned orangutans, who rely on our care every year. You can help by adopting one. Their dedicated ‘nannies’ teach them everything they need to know for when it’s time to release them back to the wild. You can follow their progress through Forest School.
