Our Vision

Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.

533
Orangutans have been released
back to their home.
359
Orangutans are being cared for in
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan

Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.

The Problem

There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia.  The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

I’ve just watched a news artical on 9News about a baby Orangutan who has been born by C Section in an American zoo (destined to a life in captivity). Why is this reaching our National news when all the wonderful work that Australian BOS does in Borneo, training and releasing Orangutans in the wild, not getting onto our National news? 😩

Yes that was what we were told at the Orang center near on our visit to Borneo👍

this one is handsome, like his beard!

👀’s like he could 🍺😃

A very handsome fellow.

Did you know we also care for 75 #sunbears at Samboja Lestari? Beautiful Fleur (photo) is one of them.

The sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) is the smallest of the eight bear species in the world. Sadly, they face numerous threats, like #orangutans.

If you join one of our Orangutan Enrichment Volunteer Tours in #borneo, you will also prepare enrichment items for these #cute bears—another reason to #booktoday! We have multiple start dates available.

Find all the info here:

Boardwalk into the jungle

Mun kisses the baby as getacross to the other cage

We vissited the sanctury near HUCHIN some years ago it was wonderful and watched the wild ORANG's being called out of the jungel to be fed .it was a wonderfu trip .the enclosed picture was the last one i took as they were returning back into the jungle.I will put some mor pictuers up next

It is a well-known fact that nearly 70% of the Borneo rainforest has been explored by humans not by their feet, but rather by chainsaws. It is difficult to fathom that a mere 30% of virgin forest is now capable of accommodating the vast array of jungle species. Despite the relevant authorities' constant call to "SAVE OUR JUNGLE," it is quite disconcerting to see that white-collar logging entrepreneurs stand behind their backs.
