BOS Australia Orangutan Adoptions

You can help save the life of an orphaned orangutan baby! By adopting one or all three of our adorable orangutans, Ruthie and Nody, you are contributing directly to the care and wellbeing of the many orangutans at our Kalimantan centres.

Currently BOS is caring for over 800 orangutans between its three rescue and rehabilitation centres of Nyaru Menteng, Samboja Lestari and Wanariset. Most of these have been victims of the logging and palm oil industries which have contributed to over 80% of orangutan habitat having been destroyed in the past 20 years.

How will the adoption money help the orangutans?

Many orphaned orangutans have been rescued, but they must learn the skills to survive on their own in the rainforest before they can be released back into the wild.

At the reintroduction projects the orangutans are looked after by professional staff. They are checked for diseases and re-accustomed to living conditions in the rainforest – this includes developing climbing skills, learning to find food, and socialisation with other orangutans. This can take many years, so the cost is significant.

With the food and equipment required, as well as the facilities, rescue vehicles and round-the-clock staff to care for the infants and teach them how to survive, the average cost from rescue to release is $6000.

What do I receive during my adoption?

You can adopt Ruthie, Dodo or Nody for $120 per year (or $32.50 per quarter, ongoing or $12 per month ongoing) either for yourself or as a gift. This is a tax deductible donation.Payment can be made by credit card, direct debit or cheque.

Your adoption pack will be posted to you or your nominated recipient. It includes the following: 

A photographiccertificate of adoption;

An information sheet about your baby; and

A gift.

(All postage is included)

In addition you or the recipient will receive two updates per year on your chosen baby’s progress as well as an online copy of our regular newsletter Grapevine.

About Your Donation: Your donation will be used in general support of BOS rescue and rehabilitation efforts. There is no limit to the number of people who can adopt Ruthie, Dodo and Nody.

BOS Australia is run almost entirely by volunteers, so you can be assured that your donation will be spent where it is most needed – on the orangutans.
