A little about Kacio (cio)
Kacio arrived on the 13th of May and was the second handover from the newspaper campaign which somehow had reached out of the province to south Kalimantan. She had been brought out to Banjamasin from a tiny settlement way up the river by a local doctor who had spotted her in a pathetic cage in which she could not even stand. She was approx 2-2.5 years old, weighed 7 kg, with big, long-lashed eyes and medium red, long, dense, soft hair. She took the five hour drive to Nyaru Menteng in great stride being pampered with lots of fruits, milk and biscuits sitting on the front passenger seat enjoying the view. Three days after her arrival when she was climbing trees behind the clinic (still in quarantine) she fell from approx five meters when she attempted to move from one tree to another. She fell with her legs and abdomen first and was totally knocked out. For over a week she could not move her legs. Nothing was broken. The slowly she regained strength back and within another week she was fine. We took a deep breath of relief. Kacio has a great personality… she loves to be center-attraction and flash her long eyelashes to get her way. She loves to sleep and at times it looks as if she actually faints into sleep. She will be walking along then suddenly lie down and sleep. She is often sick with diarrhea and often refuses to eat or drink, leaving her on the bring of dehydration. She is a good climber and when she is not feeling good she often makes a crude nest and sleeps for hours in the tree tops. Whenshe is feeling good she likes to play with her friends in the trees… not so much on the ground. Now in August she weighs 9.2 kg but seem to grow more in length than width. She is still often sick with diarrhes and is presently recovering from malaria.
