Yayang & Sayang are free

December 1st 2013

This was the day Yayang and her daughter, Sayang were returned to their forest home with thanks to BOS Australia’s generous supporters.

Our June 2013 appeal raised funds for the cost of the helicopter for the East Kalimantan drop of Yayang & Sayang and Diah.

The release was a success. As soon as the cage was opened, little Sayang directly dashed out of the cage. Followed by her mother, Yayang, they both climbed the nearest tree in full confidence.   All of those years on the pre-release islands in Central Kalimantan had given these two orangutans an immense learning experience of surviving in the forest.

Thanks to you all as your support makes these releases possible and the reintroduction centers function.

How Can You Help

There are lots of ways you can support orangutans and help ensure the survival of this precious ape.

Adopt an Orangutan

Orangutans are endangered and at risk of extinction. Habitat destruction results in hundreds of orphaned orangutans, who rely on our care every year. You can help by adopting one. Their dedicated ‘nannies’ teach them everything they need to know for when it’s time to release them back to the wild. You can follow their progress through Forest School.
