A little about Trold
On the evening of 27th of February some people from the village nearest Kaja Island reported they had brought a small orangutan down from up river where it was held captive under appalling conditions. We picked her up the next morning. She was approx 1.5-2 years old but weighed only four kilos. She was long-limbed and with the cutest little troll like ears (therefore the name). She had only been in captivity for a short while and did not immediately enjoy our company. For the first three days she would spend most of her time in the trees but suddenly on the fourth day she couldn’t get enough cuddles and attention. She now feels safe and loved and even though she does like a cuddle she explores the trees with great determination, makes some rather good nests, and is capable of finding some foods on her own. Despite her young age and small size she is very independent and strong-minded… just like a small Scandinavian Trold. She has continued to steadily put on weight and in August she now weighs 7.5kg. She was sick with pneumonia in the end of May but otherwise she has been healthy. She is extremely active in the trees and finds a lot of forest fruits, leaves and bark to eat.
