Foreign Correspondent – Borneo Orangutans

This ABC documentary from 2006 provides an excellent insight into the plight of the orangutan. Eric Campbell visits Nyaru Menteng and gets to see Forest School in action. BOS’s Lone Dröscher Nielsen explains the rehabilitation process that these often traumatised babies will undertake to allow them to return to the wild.

The documentary explains the threat that palm oil poses including the loss of habitat, illegal logging and killing or capture of orangutans. (Please not that some of this footage is at times distressing)

How Can You Help

There are lots of ways you can support orangutans and help ensure the survival of this precious ape.

Adopt an Orangutan

Adopt an Orangutan

Orangutans are endangered and at risk of extinction. Habitat destruction results in hundreds of orphaned orangutans, who rely on our care every year. You can help by adopting one. Their dedicated ‘nannies’ teach them everything they need to know for when it’s time to release them back to the wild. You can follow their progress through Forest School.
