The Problem
There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia. The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

Did you know #orangutans are absolute geniuses? They can solve problems using tools around them. Amazing Bujang proves this firsthand!
Before BOS rescued him at age 14, Bujang was forced to perform in a circus.
Tragically, when assessed by our veterinarians, Bujang exhibited no natural behaviours. This meant we could never return him to the wild, as it would be too dangerous for him.
Therefore, the BOS Foundation team built him a unique #sanctuaryisland at Samboja Lestari.
Bujang doesn't like men very much, probably due to his treatment at the circus, but loves the female staff.😍🦧
