Our Vision

Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.

549
Orangutans have been released
back to their home.
344
Orangutans are being cared for in
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan

Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.

The Problem

There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia.  The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

One of our all-time classics, and a great way to start the new week - Mud #yoga with #orangutan Yutris while he was still in #OrangutanJungleSchool.

Yutris was only 7 months old when he was rescued in 2015. He was reportedly found by bird hunters, alone and without his mother, and was illegally kept as a pet before being surrendered to BOS.

Since February 2024, Yutris is enjoying life on Bangamat pre-release island.

They make my day i love those goofy little 1's

Our #orangutans in #OrangutanJungleSchool love slurping on rubber sap. It's both tasty and nutritious, but requires some practice to eat.

What special treat are you enjoying this weeke#SaveOrangutansu#conservationa#weekendvibesvibes

One of these days. 🎯♥️

Pre-Release Protein-Power: Jelapat, Junior and Uru love the boiled eggs they receive from the BCS (Body Condition Score) team.

During the latest observation, all three appeared to be in good health, enjoying their lives on Badak Kecil Island.

The BOS technicians provide supplementary food daily; however, as the orangutans become more independent, they use these additional meals less frequently.
