Our Vision

Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.

549
Orangutans have been released
back to their home.
344
Orangutans are being cared for in
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan

Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.

The Problem

There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia.  The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

Do you remember our beloved Kopral, the #orangutan with no arms?

Kopral is our #superhero when it comes to determination, resilience and a positive attitude.

Last year, he seriously injured his right foot, which is extremely tragic for a double-arm amputee who depends on his feet to live a self-determined life.

Come and check in with us to find out how his recovery is progressing here:

Meet Kayla, our latest rescued #orphan.

The one-year-old infant spent six months confined in a cat cage before a rescue team, including one of our BOS Foundation's veterinarians, received a phone call about her location.

We aim to achieve at least 100 new adoptions by 15 October 2025. Unfortunately, we are still far from our goal and urgently need your support!

World Habitat Day reminds us that all wildlife, including orangutans, depend on healthy habitats for their well-being and survival.

At BOS, we strive to protect Indonesia's unique forest ecosystems and restore those that have already been exploited, so #orangutansutans and all Indone#wildlifedlife have homes for countless generations to come.

Today, we celebrate World Animal Day—and its 100th anniversary!

This year's theme, "Save Animals, Save the Planet," emphasises the interconnectedness of animal welfare and environmental health, reminding us that protecting one helps safeguard the other.

Orangutans are a keystone species, meaning they are crucial to the health of the tropical forest ecosystems in which they live.

They play a vital role in seed dispersal because they eat a wide variety of fruits, can ingest seeds larger than most other fruit-eating animals, and travel long distances while spreading these seeds.

By protecting #orangutans in their natural habitats, we also safeguard countless other plant and animal species. Conserving these forest #ecosystems is just as important to humankind as it is to the #biodiversity found within them.

Awesome ❤️CELEBRATE!!!

Please, remember that these amazing living creatures are being turned into endangered species by despicable multinationals like Ferrero which makes Nutella or those making oreo cookies or Cadbury products to name just a few, which keep on destroying their natural forests in Indonesia and Borneo to plant Palm oíl trees just because Palm oíl IS cheap!!! The international community must inform consumers about It,fine those multinationals and ban this appalling business and those Who buy those products containing Palm oíl MUST be aware of its terrible consequences.. PLEASE,lets read the labels and lets not buy those products containing Palm oíl for the sake of these innocent and unique living creatures 🦧❤️
