Our Vision

Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.

539
Orangutans have been released
back to their home.
349
Orangutans are being cared for in
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan

Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.

The Problem

There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia.  The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

magnificent creatures!!!

That was just so beautiful ❣️ I’m so happy they get to live wild again, they are sentient beings and it’s sad they have been jailed for so long through no fault of their own! Be free beautiful souls and no one touch them, let them be free and thrive❣️💕🙏🙏🇦🇺

🥰😍🥰😍

So beautiful! Enjoy your new lives, sweet ones.

She is the only known #albino #orangutan—beautiful Alba. Today is her rescue #anniversary!

Alba was just five years old when BOS rescued her from captivity in 2017 and brought her to the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, where she spent nearly two years under our care.

Although she is susceptible to various health conditions—such as poor vision, hearing issues, and sensitivity to light—Alba demonstrated excellent climbing and socialisation skills.

Thanks to her impressive progress, the BOS Foundation team released her into the Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park in December 2018. Since then, she has been thriving in her natural #rainforest habitat.

She wouldn’t be albino with blue eyes. She would be Leucistic. Albinism has red eyes.
