Our Vision

Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.

539
Orangutans have been released
back to their home.
349
Orangutans are being cared for in
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan

Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.

The Problem

There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia.  The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Fani, an orangutan who had been under our care since 4 December 2006.

Fani was a symbol of resilience and beauty, a soul who touched the hearts of many.

Rescued from a circus in Ancol, Jakarta, she found her true home at Samboja Lestari alongside Jackson, Rambo, Isti, and Tristan.

With her long, captivating hair and graceful presence, Fani was an emblem of strength and hope.

Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on, forever woven into our hearts.

Thank you to everyone who loved and supported Fani. She will always be a part of us.

New rescued #baby orangutan!

We are pleased to inform you that on 5 June 2025, a joint team from the Natural Resources and Conservation Agency Central Kalimantan and the BOS Foundation Nyaru Menteng successfully rescued a young female #orphaned #orangutan from Dahian Tambuk Village in Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan.

Little Momo is estimated to be about 1.5 years old and is now being safely cared for at the BOS Foundation's Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Centre.

As with all our rescued babies, Momo's second chance in life starts with a thorough health check at a veterinary clinic.

However, due to the necessary relocation of our Nyaru Menteng Centre, we currently don't have a veterinary clinic at our new site and urgently need your support to#orangutansfor #orangutans like Momo.

Only with a state-of-the-art clinic can we maintain the health of the orangutans in our care throughout their lengthy rehabilitation journey.

We must raise 200,000 by 3#helpus Please #HelpUs!

Bless you for your work 🙏

If I could do life over again. Knowing what I know now, then! This would be my dream job!

Poor little baby 😢 and her mother my heart breaks

Where was it rescued from and how did he get there?

Thank you for the wonderful service

This darling creature 🫶🏻.. get well soon and have a happy life. ❤️❤️❤️

Look at the poor frightened little fellow. Who did this?

Poor sweetheart ♥️

So pleased this innocent beautiful little one has been saved and in safe caring hands x

Wishing Momo all the best! 🦧

Why have you had to move? All was set up there well? That this is still happening sickens me, so much for all the education and inclusion of locals they should be punished for destroying their own. It will not stop without any deterrent

I love the baby send him or her to me il take care

Thank you so much for rescuing them and taking care of these precious animals

I really like orangutans living in the wild, because that is their home, not a cage.

The dedication and love these guys give theses beautiful animals is amazing what a wonderful thing to do they are all Angels Thank you all ❤️

Sleeping, feel safe. Poor baby 😢

Es un niño precioso ❤️❤️❤️❤️

God bless you all

Poor baby

Topan spotted!

The BOS technicians recently observed Topan, one of our adoptable orangutans, living on Bangamat Pre-Release Island.

Or should we say that Topan observed our technicians? The female #orangutan kept a close eye on them as they delivered supplemental food at the feeding platform.

Shortly after their arrival, Topan began her feast with bananas, followed by tempeh, melon and pumpkin, with a notably voracious appetite.

Later, Topan climbed a tree to a height of 1 to 5 meters, carrying bananas, and didn't stop eating until the observation concluded.
