Our Vision
Our vision is a world where orangutans are free from the threat of extinction and can live in the wild, unharmed by humans.
back to their home.
our two sanctuaries.

Adopt an orphaned orangutan
Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitationΒ
they need to return to the wild.
The Problem
There are numerous threats to the viability of the remainingΒ wild orangutan populationΒ in Indonesia and Malaysia.Β Β The primary threat is theΒ loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and MalaysiaΒ having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

Today is Jelapat's rescue anniversary.
The now 10-year-old was rescued nine years ago after being kept as a pet for months in a tiny cage on the side of a busy road, dressed in baby clothing.
Once in the care of the BOS Foundation, the little male orangutan showed remarkable resilience. Jelapat graduated #forestschoolchool with flying colours, became a star in the award-winning documentary se#OrangutanJungleSchoolchool, and is now on a pre-release islandβ just one step away from freedom.

We have welcomed two more rescued #orangutan #babies! This time, at our Samboja Lestari Centre in East Kalimantan.
Before their rescue, tiny Esa and Indri had been kept as a pet for a month, surviving only on sugar water.
Little Esa, around 6.5 months old, showed signs of malnutrition, while Indri, estimated to be 7.5 months old, was in an even more alarming condition.
She had numerous healing wounds and one large open wound on her right temple caused by a dog bite. Her right wrist also appeared unable to straighten, likely due to trauma.
Esa and Indri now receive dedicated medical care and loving 24/7 attention from our veterinarians and caregivers, which began with further medical examinations at our Samboja Lestari clinic.
As you can imagine, onsite clinics are crucial for treating the #orangutans in our care, from initial health evaluations for rescued babies to final health check-ups for release candidates.
Did you know that, due to the necessary relocation of our centre in Central Kalimantan, we currently do not have a readily accessible clinic at our new Nyaru Menteng 2 sanctuary?
Will you #helpus build this urgently needed veterinary clinic for babies like Esa and Indri?
Your donation will have double the impact. One of our most generous donors will match your gift up to the value of $30,000 at:

Your support means the world to us!

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Fani, an orangutan who had been under our care since 4 December 2006.
Fani was a symbol of resilience and beauty, a soul who touched the hearts of many.
Rescued from a circus in Ancol, Jakarta, she found her true home at Samboja Lestari alongside Jackson, Rambo, Isti, and Tristan.
With her long, captivating hair and graceful presence, Fani was an emblem of strength and hope.
Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on, forever woven into our hearts.
Thank you to everyone who loved and supported Fani. She will always be a part of us.
