Doren returns home

17 October 2014

Two months after one of our beautiful female orangutans, Doren, disappeared, the team at Nyaru Menteng were delighted to find her by Rungan river near Kanarakan Village, which is more than 30kms away from where she was last sighted on Bangamat Island.

BOS Foundation assists BKSDA on Gundul’s case

On Thursday October 18, 2012, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation was requested by the East Kalimantan Conservation and Natural Resources Authority (BKSDA) to provide medical services, health checks and blood sampling at the East Kalimantan BKSDA Office in Samarinda for one adult female orangutan who had just been rescued by BKSDA.

Nyaru Menteng releases 8 orangutans

In an effort to meet the target that set by the Indonesian Orangutan Conservation Action Plan 2007-2017, BOS Foundation in Nyaru Menteng will release 8 orangutans, following 15 orangutans that have been released previously. 

Bridgestone adopts 2 orangutans

In a series of events conducted by Bridgestone, a leading tyre manufacturer, the BOS Foundation accepted generous donations including cash in the amount of IDR 40 million, car tyres, as well as tree planting and care on a one-hectare area at Samboja Lestari for 8 years.

Welcome home Casey, Lesan and Mail

April 24, 2012  The first 3 Orangutans from Samboja Lestari are released. Back to the wild, they are free.

Mama Tata and Tata to be released

Nyaru Menteng,Central Kalimantan, March 29, 2012.

After a successful release of four orangutans on February 28 in the Bukit Batikap Conservation Forest, eleven orangutans are now in the final preparation stage to be released in the same region. This release will be conducted on March 30-31.

Mama Tata and Tata (pictured) are two of those about to taste freedom.

No place like home

‘There really is no place like home. This is the moment we’ve been working towards - the first four ex-captive orangutans are going home’ said Tony Gilding, President of BOS Australia (BOSA) – a sister organisation to Indonesia. ‘It’s been 10 years in the making, and this is just the beginning.

We still have over 800 orangutans in our care that all need eventual release. Tomorrow’s historic event gives us confidence and hope to set more free.’
